Default What do you do when this happens...

I got out of my car this morning in the parking lot and saw a professor of mine. He must've noticed my car and later came up to me and said, "You know, I always wanted an S4 but never thought I could afford one." He then proceeds to tell another professor of mine what a great car I drive, and on and on and on.

I was kind of embarassed.

If this prof. had kept his job as a lawyer, he could drive one too.

Default no reason to be embarassed.

be blessed knowing you own such a nice car due to your hard work.

many others work just as hard (ie your prof) but still cannot have an S4.

Ehh, it's due to my parents' hard work. They bought it for me. 8^)

Default I have a few Law professors as clients...None of them are under $115k / yr in income. He can afford

it unless he's one of those who lives in a house he can barley pay the taxes on. You know those people, the ones who live in the new communities with the 5-6k sq. ft pads. Funny thing is alot of them don't even have one bit of lanscaping done in the yard....no trees either! They can't affort ****. I always laugh when I see those houses.

Default Explain to him how quickly they depreciate, how much he can find one for, explain how you got it.

Makes me feel better when I'm in that situation. I usually just say, "I threw all my money at the Krispy Kreme IPO." Good thing I got out before the downturn.

When I was interviewing for a job of a securities firm (which I think I got - interview went very well) there was a pre-interview reception the night before. I was talking with one of the leveraged finance guys and cars came up. Turns out he drives a B6 1.8T. I commented on how modifiable the engine and the car is, and he asks me what I drive.

I definitely felt weird as a 21y/o explaining to my potential employer (who earns well in to six figures) that I drive an S4. But, of course, I wrote it off as a product of my business/market savvy
