What do you guys think of the Castrol Syntec 5w40?
It meets BMW, VW, and Mercedes requirements. Says it's the European formula now bottled in the US. Also, anybody see the new Quaker State "Q Horsepower" oil? 5w40 Ferrari factory fill!!! LOL!

I think it's fine though made with group III base stock - it's not *really* synthetic. I go with
german Pentosynth 5w40 synthetic. Still a group IV (while most others have reformulated to group III after that court ruling) and it's fairly cheap.

i use it...
all the audis in canada dealers have castrol 5/40 as well as VW dealers well this is the standard synthetic oil for any VW/Audi with a turbo'd motor (non TDI) to my knowledge
been using it forever.. works fine for me.. change every 8000km/5000mi

that is good stuff imho. oh btw ... i jinxed myself sunday
on the way back from the shore hauling 80+mph i came to a stop (traffic jam due to a turned cadi) sat there for 5 min and my coolant temp climbed little passed the half (it was cloudy and about 76*OT ) turned the car off since we sat there for 20-30 min and it went down when we drove off.
i'll check the fans and make sure they work ok. and might go with a efk soon anyway

See what I'm sayin!!!! ;>p
That's what does it for me....drive for 30 minutes plus at 75mph+ , then hit stop and go traffic. Only happens when it's really hot out though. I'm just keeping an eye on it for now. Never happen at all this past weekend. Weird.

Try Pennzoil Platinum Euro 5W-40
or QTorque 5W-40. They are the same oil and are repackaged Shell Helix 5W-40.
you can get Platinum here:

If you want the absolute best oil that money can buy, then you can try one of the oils from Renewable Lubricants. I had a 5W-40 formulated specifically for the B7RS4.

Castrol Syntec 5W-40 did not fare well in the RS4 engine. In fact, so far no 502 oil has done very well, including Castrol, Mobil 1, Motul and Elf.
If you are diverging from Audi/VW oils, then you can also go with a 10W-40, unless you live in Canada. The oil will be much more shear stable, and will provide better ring seal.

Why do you like the Pennzoil?
Also, which of these do you recommend, if you had to choose one:
Mobil1 0w40
Mobil1 5w40 Truck and SUV/Turbo Diesel
Castrol 5w40
Mobil1 0w40
