What the hell are these (extra parts from a short shifter install):
Ok, I've installed a number of shifters in this car and have never come across these things. I just put the Toy_Guy shifter in my car (I like it, I need to do more adjustment before I write a review) and as I was putting the shifter surround back on I hear a popping sound, so I pulled it back off and these little bastards were sitting on the sound deadening piece. No watch for scale, but they are about 1/2" long. I have no clue where they go, any ideas? Thanks guys.

OMG, same thing happened to me! After leaving it in my ashtray for a few months...
I just threw it away yesterday. It can't be *that* important or my car would have fallen apart by now!

Clips to hold the shifter surround trim?
If they're sharp and you don't have two clips that hook into the bottom of the shifter surround trim piece (the wood "finishing" piece with the boot attached), that's what they are.

They fall out all the time.. Really pointless items, but they...
Are used to keep the shifter plastic surround piece tight. If you look on the bottom of that plastic piece you'll see two posts. Those two posts go into those two metal pieces. What happens is that the tension pulls those out of their home in the center console when you pull the shifter surround piece up. Non essential really though. Probably to help eliminate rattles and squeeks. (our car is full of stuff like that)
Not sure if that was clear, I'll see if I can get some pictures later if you still don't understand what I mean.
