Default The s4 block is derrived from a diesel engine, and thus it's use to VERY high CR's.

So me thinks that they've got their head gasket technology down pretty good for this engine.

Default Yeah, but Chrysler has been building self propelled vehicles since the late 1800's...

But that didn't stop the Dodge Neons from blowing head gaskets... and they weren't even turbo. :-P

Yeah, that and the camshafts "walking" out of the head. Don't buy a Neon.

What engine is it derived from? I thought it was just a beefed up 2.8L.

Default 1. Nearly invincible cooling system. 2. Motronic Me7.

I know invincible isn't the right word, but it's the first one that comes to mind.

The Motronic is totally badass as far as keeping our hardware safe. It can cut throttle, pull a bunch of timing, dump a lot of fuel, or just cut back boost depending on inputs from it's intelligently chosen sensors. The only thing I would add for improvement is a cylinder head temp sensor.

Lots of torque to yeild head bolts (stretch bolts) and a good gasket are only part of the picture.

Default FWIW I have had a number of Saab turbos (modded too) without any headgasket issues...

My '92 900T Convert has 218k on the original head gasket (stock engine though)

Saab has had a few specific years with headgasket issues (1990 2.0 Turbos for instance, as well as all the 2.1 liter na 900 s's from the early '90s...)

In my experience Saab's are very sensitive to maintenance and tend to work better when used regularly...
