Default What modification is necessary for the JL Audio Stealthbox installation?

Someone on the Audio forum (yes, I checked there first) mentioned that there was some trunk material to be trimmed, and maybe some metal to be cut to get this thing in there properly. Anyone? Thanks.

Default Not sure, but when I contacted JL they said it just doesn't fit.

They also said they have no intention of making a new one that does fit. I guess it's possible to shape the car around the box, or just get a custom box made.

Default that's pretty much all there is to it. gotta cut some of your deck due to design differences in

the newer cars. I can work, but I wouldn't want
to start tearing into my rear deck. That sucker
probably provides some structural support.

Default Do you know how much cutting is involved?

Is it just a little trimming with a dremel, or will I need to break out the jigsaw and go to town? If the former, no biggie. If the latter, I'm going to have to go custom.

I'm searching for any way that lets me do most of the install, as I hate handing the keys over to anyone...

Default well, I'm not sure. I've seen them installed in older A4's though...

and it's not exactly the space saver that
people say it's supposed to be. I say you
just buy mine. If you're looking for a sub
right now, then lemme know, and I'll take pics
of my setup, and get you the model number. It
matches our cars perfectly, it's priced really
well, and a few AWers can tell you, it gives
me more than enough bass. However, I am
building a full out custom system with a custom
box. (I got nothing better to do now that I'm laid off)

the box I have now is really easy to take out -
which was one of my criteria when I got it...
and it's also matches perfectly, which was the
second criteria.

The JL Audio stealthbox requires removal of your
rear speakers. If you use the hidden equalizer,
your system will sound much better than with
the rear speakers removed. just take the bass
load off the speakers so the highs and mids can
shine through, and let the sub handle the bass.

Need to trim about 8" diam. half circle or so out of the left side liner.

Default Thanks, but....

I'm into the custom arena myself. I'm working on squeezing 6.5s into the front doors with little or no mods to the door and a sub in the trunk. I wanted to try the JL box to see whether it could compare to a more elaborate 10 or 12 in a more clever location. If the JL box won't fit pretty easily, then I'll just revert to my original idea of doing a 10 or 12.

I have a sub box stuffed with 2 12s that I'll sell YOU! Rockford, old style Punch subs (before they were sold by BB).

Default There's a writeup on the entire install on the Boston Audi website.

It's pretty easy, and there's only a little bit of cutting involved.

http://www.bostonaudi.org/projects/stealthbox/</a
