Ok, I know you guys have gone to the mountain and asked the question. "Honey, we need to get an new Audi"....I'm just wondering what you had to offer in return. Listed below are the deal points in my negotiation. We discussed the older Audi's warranty issues. We did not discuss modifications, insurance, payments or price. Let me know how you think I did:

I get :

New 2000 Audi (A4 / S4?... it was not discussed which one)

She gets:

1) New alloy wheels on her older vehicle
2) CD Changer (6-8-10-12 disc ?...doesn't matter to her). I originally
offered to get a new stereo unit also...but she said she didn't need
it.
3) I am gonna get her one other thing (value ~$300). Nothing to do
with cars.

I don't know about you guys...but I think I did well. Don't you?

Default As long as she agrees not to ever give you grief about it...

...you made an AWESOME deal! BTW - I made a similar deal with my wife, when we sold our house last year. She said I could take some of the money from the house to buy a Z3, as long as I make the new mortgage payment. Sounds like you made out much better than I did. Good luck!

Default If she's already said "okay", you're crazy if you pass up an S4 for an A4

Since she doesn't care, go for the S4. You won't regret it.

Default You idiot, for the $42k you are burning, you could invest it and retire a rich man!

Cars are such a waste of money! Tell your wife what you are really spending!

Maybe Steve already HAS enough invested for retirement. What's it to you?

Default Take her for a weekend away at a bed & breakfast with the $300. (more)

Women universally love that stuff. You will love the typically twisty drive in your new S4 to get to such a place that has good B&Bs.

The breakfast usually rocks, also!

If I do things from time to time that show my wife I care for her (which I genuinely do, BTW), there is never an argument when I go shopping. Just bought a 360V8 Ram Quad Cab SLT this week b/c this is Texas and I needed a truck and the dealership was selling them for (I am not making this up) under $20K . She went with me to pick out the color.

Default Wow, after listening to how you married folks need to get permission from your wives, I better..

live it up while I'm still single! Perhaps I should do something crazy and trade in my 99.5 A4 for an S4... I've been tempted several times, but I think common sense usually took over after the delirium subsided!
