What will the dealer cover when chipped?
Does anybody know for sure if the dealer will cover things like a blown turbo(s),blown gaskets, hoses ,clutches ,trannys etc. after installing a chip. When I went to the dealer last time , he hooked up the VAG tool and recorded the drive session with the tool. Then he printed it out and sent it to the AOA . My service invoice notes That my car is chipped and has a aftermarket exaust. So they do know , even if you dont tell them from the readings on the print out. Just makes me wonder if sooner or later something is gonna cost me a mint.

If you're tough enough....
they have to prove that your modification
caused the damage to the car or they must
cover the repair under warranty (Moss Act,
it's a consumer protection law from the
late 60's). Stand firm on it, threaten if
you must, but if it's a manufacturer's defect
then stand tall.

Not true. This is completely up to the service department at each dealership.
My dealership will cover everything but the modified ECU, so I got a spare. Each dealership is different.

there is something from the moss act that you are missing. (more)
The moss act says that people are allowed to use aftermarket parts for servicing, repair and maintenence of their vehicle if the manufacture charges for said part. The thing that you are missing here is for the first 3/36 Audi will give you all parts and labor for the repair of defects in your vehicle and also GIVES you all maintenance parts, fluids and labor. This ACT was passed so that people who chose to use a fram oil filter would not have their warranty voided. This really doesn't apply to doubling the charge pressure of your intake or running components that are designed to be used off-road of in compitive events (both of which will cause you warranty hassles). It is the same as the people that take their cars to the track and burn up the front brakes then have them fixed under warranty. the dealer nor AoA can prove that you where at the race track and tore up your brakes so they are replaced. I would suggest that you remove the numbers, duck tape and pylon rash before taking your car into service.
somewhere in the warranty book I do remember that changing engine management or emission control characteristics will void your warranty. don't quote me on this, I might have been smoking some crack that day and could be imagining the entire thing... things like suspension, brakes and cat back exhaust will NOT give you any warranty problems. though you might have a hard time with CV joints and wheel bearings with lowered suspension if your dealership wanted to be *** holes.
there are only two things that will keep your warranty intact.
1. don't chip your car
2. chip your car and never let them (AoA) find out. the only way to assure this is to have a spare ecu and a VAG tool. there is another potential issue with this. you are committing fraud by putting the stock ECU in the car and returning it for repair and having Audi foot the bill, this is some kind of misrepresentation. I am sure that one of the lawyer guys on the board will have the right one word definition for this.
Please don't believe that the moss act will save you 100% of the time.
matthewk

that it not audi's official word on it. if a field rep showed up as they do, to look at the car. (m)
your dealership would be footing the bill not audi. I realize that all dealerships are different and i was not speaking for them. my above reference is only a reflection of how audi themselves would look at the situation.
matthewk

My dealerships position is supported by their regional audi rep... I checked before I chipped.
Also, I got my box of zaino stuff in the mail today, so my wife says. I am out of town and can not wait to get home and wash and wax may car. That's kind of sick, isn't it.....
