Whats the story on this AoA approved tuning?

You're a bit wrong, there, sport.
Corrections - A6 (or RS6) is larger than the 5-series, in length, width, and volume and the Audis will never be as light as the BMWs because of Quattro. Also, the new M5 is not slated until 2005 - with that - they would have to increase the current model more than 50hp, add floating disc brakes, and dynamic stability control, just to BEAT the RS6. You've got it wrong, bud - the RS6 is a superior car than the M5, so it is not an answer to the M5, it is a car for which BMW will have to aspire to in its next model. That's the way these Euro supercars work - someone makes a great one, and someone makes a better one, and the cycle starts over. The RS6 is easily superior to the M5, and the new M5 will be chasing it in 2005. I think Audi has taken the lead here...

Okay, if that happens, then BMW is just chasing the RS6, and Audi will respond in kind...
The RS6 is easily superior to the current M5, and with the new M5 not out until 2005, that gives 3 years where RS6 is king, about the same time the old M5 was king...
It's the way of the Euro supercar sedans - to not buy a vehicle because 2 or 3 years from now something better will come along is just stupid - you'd never buy a car!

No. As Boss said, the next M5 WILL be faster, and lighter.
Furthermore, can you kindly post a link to any published road test wherein the RS6 has posted superior acceleration/handling/braking numbers to the current M5? I haven't seen any instrumented test data for it yet, have you?

Sorry, the new M5 will be out next year. Not 2005. The engine development is almost complete. On
top of that, Mercedes new 55 AMG (first new version is the SL 55 AMG) line is superior in power, 476 HP and 515 lbs torque - stock.

In addition...
The new M5 I've read several places that it will output 470hp, not 510hp. Let's see, because this is an entirely new engine for them anyway.
The current AMG E55 is a joke compared to the RS6 - 349hp vs. 450 hp, and even the new M-B E5 AMG is rumored to step up to only 450hp from a 5.0 liter engine. Plus, when you put a Benz next to any other car with the same engine specs, the other car is faster, so they will continue to lag in the sport/speed department. You know darn well the only competition for the RS6 is going to be the new M5 three years from now. THREE YEARS! Let's also consider it might be faster than the RS6 (of course, we're talking standard versus automatic, but whatever) but will it have as many fantastic innovations in a sport sedan like the RS6, or just be a huge American-style zillion-valve engine in a new BMW skin?

Show me where you get this info - I don't believe it
Everything I have seen and read is different from what you are posting, so give me some links, here bud.
The new 5-series isn't even due out until next year, and they most certainly won't launch a new M5 in the same year - the development takes at least one full production year after the introduction of a new line.
