What's wrong with my headlight?
<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/39123/bad_focus.jpg"></center><p>Hi all,
I finally got the chance to take a picture of my headlight pattern. Ever since changing out the stock light housings for a new set I've had problems with the aiming. After much trial and error I was able to get this. It looks like the focusing is completely screwy on the passenger side light... Any suggestions?
PS: I know some people have had problems with the one light seeming bluer, or more yellow than the other. In this case the passenger side looks more yellow.

looks like it might be a problem with the bulb and cutoff too..
did you do anything with the bulbs?
Looks like there's no cutoff at all. Perhaps the little metal piece that makes the cutoff fell loose or something.

Re: looks like it might be a problem with the bulb and cutoff too..
Thanks for the reply!
If you look carefully you'll see that the cut off pattern is there on the right side. Its just much much dimmer than normal. Is it possible that the bulb is just mounted incorrectly in the housing? Perhaps its off centered or something. I'll check and get back to you guys.
I did not change out the original housings, a dumb body shop did it. They even lost the screws near the blinkers because they were too lazy to install them again. Words of advice you probably already know: "NEVER trust anyone else with your car."

I dont think its possible to mount the bulb in there wrong...
I think the best thing you can do is pull the housing and see whats up. If the shop you took it to damaged the bulb and replaced it with the wrong type or a poor quality bulb, this might happen as well.
Our bulbs should be D2S bulbs, it should look something like this:

A D2R bulb is pictured below:

These bulbs have a beam corrector built onto the bulb and a meant for non-projector style headlight housings.

looks like the capsule is not seated correctly
take off the air intake snorkel and you can fiddle around with the capsule without having to take the whole headlight assembly off the car.

Re: I dont think its possible to mount the bulb in there wrong...
Thanks for the help!
I removed the light and took apart the bulb housing. It turns out that the bulb was not pushed in all the way. I re-assembled the light and everything was fine. After that, aiming the light was cake... And just FYI, the passenger light was aimed WAY high in my original pic.
So for anyone who comes across this post, check the seating of your bulb if you are having focusing, dimming, or miscolored headlight problems.
Additionally it looks like the body shop broke the little ceramic piece. I'm assuming its just an insulator and not super important. The light still works like it used to, but I'm pissed its broken. Oh well... That's what happens when other people touch your car, grrr...
