Wheel size question...

When it says 17x7.5 or 17x8, what/where is this difference and can I buy either one to fit our stock size tire of 225/45/17..thanks!

The different numbers are the wheel widths. A 225 width tire will fit on either one, but

will be slightly more stretched out on the 8 vs. the 7.5.
