i think the most lane-shifters and heavy duty speeders (80+ in 65mph zone) that I see are SUV drivers.
remember that SUV driver you dealt with Sandy?

My guess is that the height and weight of the vehicle causes one to loose sense of speed.

Some of them are! My GMC Typhoon is probably quicker to 60 than any of the Audis on the forum.

It has been breathed on, though, all with bolt-ons. Really, just exhaust, better intercooler, bigger turbo, chip and trans upgrades. For the record, it does 12.6 @ 107

It handles, too, though it really isn't a threat to any Porsches. But even stock it pulls more lateral gs than the S4. Mine has Bilsteins, sway bar and 17X9.5 and 17X11 ZR1 wheels with SP8000 tires, so it has more grip (but still doesn't handle like my 944 turbo).

Default Could be that "law of gross tonnage"

My last vehicle was a Lexus RX300, which for an SUV is reasonably quick (0-60mph in ~8.5s). The height and heft of an SUV tend to make you feel rather dominant in traffic.

Yeah, but that's kind of the exception to the rule, eh?

Default While you're clearing traffic, let's make a law against Minivans in the fast lane!

I get stuck behind them doing the speed limit. Argh!

Default You need to drive my 2000 V8 Jeep GC... 7.2sec 0-60! (more)

Granted its not an S4... but it has to be one of the best handling NON-Car vehicles out there... one of the fastest too... very hard to not cruise at 80mph on the highway... sorry...

BUT, I do NOT do crazy lane changes... I try to be courteous... I save those crazy maneuvers for the S4!

SUVs can be useful... Let's not be completely blind to the facts...

Default I have been driving landrovers for the last 10 years.

I have always wanted a bumper sticker that states " I use other people's crumple zones".

Seriously, I always give my self plenty of room, as I know a 6000 lbs vehicle will not stop as quickly as a 3000lbs one. Most SUV drivers are not that smart though.

Default Jeeeep

I agree. I owned a '95, and have driven the new one that you own. Easily the best SUV on the market--unless you need to haul 12 neighborhood kids around.

I agree. Most are not paying attention, nor do they have a feel for the limits of their vehicles. I've been hit by a few over the past couple of years.
