Go to tirerack.com and pick the tire you're interested in. Under specs you can see the recommended rim widths. For a Pzero Rosso for example, a 295/40-20 the recommended rim width is 10.0-11.5".

I have 20x9 with a 29 offset. Running 275 width and it's just about perfect. Like Rob said, maybe a 30-32 would be ideal, but I already had the 29 offset wheels. I've also lowered my car a bit, looks great.
