That's a serious power increase for under a grand!
I would first want to know if the A8 vs S8 transmission differences could be known for certain. If they are the same, that reprogram is very tempting.

I have the A8L 4.0T with 420hp/444ftlbs. I'm interested in approaching the S8 power but only if the transmission is the same model. Otherwise I would not dare modify the power give my experience with the RS6 which I left stock accept for MTM TCU and KW V3s.

Dr.Aronis, I can tell you unequivocally that the trannys are different between the S6/S7, which uses the 7-speed S-tronic dual clutch transmission, while the S8 uses an 8-speed traditional automatic.
The jury's out regarding just how much torque the S-tronic can hold. I suspect that there's some headroom in the design (pretty much an engineering maxim), but consider that Audi decided not to use this tranny for the S8. Whether is was because of reliability concerns or just that the slush-box is more "luxurious" than sporty, who knows. Maybe a bit of both.
I haven't looked at the specs for your A8, but I suspect that it uses the same 8-speed tranny as the S8 (less a transmission cooler, I think). There are other differences between the engines though - different internals and turbos, for instance.
I'm not going to be the first to tune my S6, that's for sure. Much better to let others be the guinea pigs/beta testers/pioneers.

I know the s6 transmission is different from the A8.
The RS6 transmission was a beefed up A8 transmission with changes "just enough" to handle the 450 Hp RS6 engine.
The question is wether or not the the 8 speed auto in the S8 is exactly the same as the A8's or is it modified. If its the same (accept for a cooler) then the A8 can safely be tuned to more Horsepower.
I agree with you, I certainly would not want to be the first to have my car tuned!
