[QUOTE=rajdad;14271484]Poor mpg? Ok I need some help here. '20 s6. I normally drive in Auto mode, I don't floor it, hardly ever go above 4krpm, I'm driving around 80mph on the highway, have a 30 min commute, time wise it is 10 mins city, 20 mins highway for a total of 18 miles. I'm ok with 20mpg, but on a 19 gallon tank I'm on empty (just for today I let go to 0 range to see what a full fill up would be and put in comfort mode just in case) and it filled at 17.7 gallons. Picture is taken after the fillup. Only got 224 miles on the previous full tank. What I did NOT pay attention to is what it said my range would be on prior fillups. Not sure if it starts out strong then dwindles. Using 93 gas. Car is garage kept. Weather here is 73-84. Here's the math I don't get: Even at 20mpg x 17 gal I should get 340 miles/tank, but at this rate 224/17.7 gals = less than 13mpg. If this is normal I'm going to be in comfort mode the whole time and only double tapping down when I need to. What am I missing? Reposting this from a Facebook post. Main responses and solutions will give me one more mpg. I do not believe that this engine should give such low mileage w very/fairly conservative driving. Previous cars same route JUST TO REDUCE VARIABLES (I know they’re very diff cars): ‘13 accord v6 28mpg 100k miles, b7 a4 31mpg 140k miles. ‘20 S6 12mpg 2k miles
12.6 mpg is atrocious and doesn't seem reasonable based on your driving description.
Only thing I can think of is did your trip counter get reset accidentally?
Since your long term average (19.6) and short term average (24.1) sound ok, the reset trip counter is the only thing I can think of.
Two other things to note, yes, the mileage range does tend to read high then come down as the tank gets lower, not usually half though.
Audi trip computers can read 5-10% optimistic on their average mpg calculations, but still not usually that bad.
Was the car in for service at all during that tank? I know that happened to me a couple times in the past for whatever reason the trip counter got reset by the service.
gk1: I don't think I reset the trip counter, but that may be the answer considering long term and short term numbers add up. You really can't do it accidentally, you have to click a couple of things to get there. Was not in for service. On another forum, someone mentioned these cards need an oil change on the FIRST 2k miles, dealer didn't mention. I'll see how this tank goes.
