Default engine differences S7 to S8

Obviously there is a significant difference in power between the S7 and S8 yet all the articles state they have the same engine. So what are the actual differences that account for the change? Is it hardware or software? I'm assuming if it's just software then it will be pretty cheap to get a aftermarket chip to boost power?

Not as simple as a chip. The S8 uses different intake and turbo configuration than the 420HP V8 engine. If you want 520HP, you need to buy a S8.

Ah...but I'll bet that when the tuners (Stasis, APR, MTM etc.) come out with their exhaust/software combinations for the S7, it'll be possible to have your S7 and 500+ hp too !

Unless you've seen the engine, which I have, you'll find this is not your typical turbo charged engine. It flows in reverse of conventional engines, where the turbos sit in the V bank of the engine with the exhaust manifolds and the intakes are on the outside of the heads where the exhaust manifolds used to be on normal engines. The heat build up from more boost levels on the turbos will have to be dealt with and the cats and exhaust are also configured to come up to the turbos in the middle of the engine also. Also add cylinder deactivation/activation software will need to be optimized for use on this engine also.

They talk about the mechanical differences between the two. Not just software.

The s7 trany can't take the torque that the tuned s8 puts out. In The Rs version, the S8 trany will be used, and the power increased. For sure the s7 can be tuned to 520, but it might break parts/overheat.

I also found a few instances that show the s7 weighs more than the s8? This s8 with more power and even equal weight shoud pound the snot out of the 7.

(carbon brakes on the 8 saves 44lbs of rotating mass, as well)

There are very significant mechanical differences in the two engines...you will never get there with a chip.
