Q7 2.0t First Impressions
Just got them in today. Around town it is perfectly fine and more than adequate. At highway speeds passing power is a little lacking but still adequate. Engine noise is more pronounced especially above 2,500 RPM but is fine when just cruising. Overall, I think it will sell well, it's just that I'm so used to driving the 3.0t. I experience the same with the Q5. The 2.0t is what almost everyone buys, but since I have a 3.0t the difference is way more obvious to me. First time Q7 buyers will find it fine. Existing Q7 owners likely wouldn't go for it.

A 4 cylinder is just not adequate in this size/class. I tested the MB diesel 4, and it was downright sluggish and loud...and hence discontinued in the GLE I believe. But at the price discount it should still sell. I'll bet the fuel savings in the 2.0 vs the 3.0 are minimal to none because the 3.0 will be more efficient at moving this monster

I love the power in the 3.0. I recently found myself on a rural road with no buildings or traffic and brought it up to 103 in what seemed like a blink of an eye.

The 2.0T can be fine for some. I'm guessing that folks who can't afford (or don't want to fork out the extra cash) the 3.0T but want a Q7 will be the ones eyeing the 2.0T. I personally won't ever buy a underpowered car, not even a family hauler/SUV. It's all fun and games until you're trying to climb a hill/mountain with a full load on a hot summer day. Nothing more frustrating than putzing along wishing for more power. Life is too short.

I drove my Q today on dynamic for the first time and I was all grins. The engine sounds so good and it moves with great authority. With that being said I drove an A6 with the 2.0 and was impressed. I'm sure the 2.0 will be adequate for most

Everyone has different expectations, and not all 4 cylinders are created equal. Volvo can't seem to meet production demands after a full year of 7 passenger AWD XC90s with only a 4 cylinder Maybe 10 years ago you could make a blanket statement about 4 cylinders, but now days many 4 cylinders put out V8 power from only a few years ago.... Technology sure has changed. But I'm with you...the 3.0T motor is too sweet to not go for in the Q7. Will be interesting to see how many 2.0Ts they can sell in the product mix.
