Default Service alert but miles way too low?

So my 2015 A3 is brand new, recently bought from dealer's leftover inventory.
Mileage at this point is only about 1500 but currently the small screen in the instrument cluster is saying oil change in 25 days. Are these warnings set to go off after a certain number of days rather than based on miles (maybe number of days passed because car was on dealer lot for quite a while)? Because I thought first oil change / service is only at 5000 miles and I'm no where near that yet. Given that, can I ignore this or should I have it done at this point even though I'm still far from that many miles?

The warning may be coming up because of a 365 day service requirement. Best to check with the dealer on what should be done to preserve your warranty, Mach. The cars are supposed to have an oil change once a year or at the quoted mileage (10k miles).

That begs the question of how old his A3 is because if he just got it 25 days until the first service does seem odd. Then again I'm not sure how a 2015 A3 can be brand new either.

machthree, it's a 2015 and not 2016??

Timmay - yes, its a 2015, got it in February. The dealer simply had never sold it -all documentation / odometer readings confirm that. I suspected its probably set to give an alert after a certain number of days if the miles are still low and that's what's probably going on here. Anyway I will call the dealer's service department to see what they suggest.

I suspect there is a Time/Milage (Whichever Comes First) trip for the service indicator. That's a pretty standard function of maintenance and warranty cycles.

Yes, agreed hence my comment about a 2015 model being new. That's pretty rare I imagine but this must definitely be coming up on 1 year as opposed to the 10k miles of course. I would hope his dealer would be willing to change his oil now and be willing to do it again after 10k miles are reached or another 12 months surpasses. That would seem reasonable to me considering it's a brand new vehicle.

I would push for dealer changing oil and covering cost, since you just bought the car.

You would be surprised what some dealers would do or say. Back in April of last year before I got my 2016 A3 convertible I was negotiating a price on what I thought was 2015 Infiniti Q60 convertible leftover. Well it turned out to be a 2014. Rightfully so I asked for higher discount and the sales manager didn't budge a penny. He said the car is new as it is never been sold and he isn't willing to take a loss. This car has been the lot queen along with a few other Q60's.

Looking back I was very glad as he did me a huge favor without knowing it. In the end I made out much better deal and saved thousands on the Audi and the A3 convertible is not only more current than Q60 but way more practical too. The Infiniti design and interior came straight out of my old G37 back in 2008. I also didn't take well how the sales guy treated me. I am in my early 40s and they had this twenty something wet behind the ears kid treating like he was doing me a favor. I maybe a mild manner asian guy but I don't take well to that kind of a treatment.
