Brakes-how many miles?

Brakes-how many miles?
I was given a 2006 A6 4.2. It has 68,000 miles on it. Hearing some brake squeak and plan on having it checked out. I believe they are the original brakes and most likely it's just due for new ones. Curious what is an average number of miles before they are needed. The car has been driven in the suburbs all it's life. Zero city driving.
Wonder approx cost and if you can just change pads or if you need new rotors too.
Thanks for any input.

Go to any online store or get oem direct parts and just get good quality parts, not just the cheapest.
BTW, try using the SEARCH there's a ton of threads on what brakes to get and even step by step tutorial on how to do the job.
I just changed my front pads on my 4.2 this week in under an hour from start to finish.

If you have pads lasting 60K - the prior owner must have babied the car and did not trash it.
The front pads have sensors. You will have a warning sign whenever the front need to be changed. The rear pads have some sort of groves to make noise when they are close to the service limit.
In both cases it possible to look at the pads with a flashlight and see how much of the material left. I think 3mm is the low level. check the inner pad as well - they usually go first since they are pushed by the calipers.

When it comes to brief squeaks when the car comes to a stop, that's perfectly "normal" though. No need to swap your pads if you did not get a dashboard warning.

Thanks to those that took time to respond. Yes, the car was babied. It was my parents car driven in the burbs/highway. ZERO city driving. Having it looked at tomorrow. Appreciate the input.

Update. Mechanic says I have 50% front and 60% rear left squeak is just brake dust, etc. Nothing to worry about. FYI, original pads and rotors at 70k.
Update to the update for anyone else looking. I did find out the pads(only) were replaced around 35K.
