Default Steering Wheel Angle Sensor

I’m looking to add ALA to my vehicle along with adding the correct stalk switch. I have most everything figured out except for the steering wheel angle sensor. Apparently it needs to be calibrated after being installed. Has anyone had this done and if so, what was involved? It looks like a trip to the dealer is needed. Wondering if they would do it, cost, and any effect on warranty.
Thanks,
David

It can be done via VCDS too. Just find someone who knows how to.

Calibration was $650 in my case at the local dealer. It is a bit of an involved process, someone had posted a You tube of it.

You dont need to calibrate anything for the steering wheel. All you are doing is resetting the angle sensor using a Basic Setting. For 650, I had bought the heated wheel, steering stalks and VCDS, and had money spare.

In order to center the steering, your front wheels must be pointing straight forward. The only way to know that is to get it on an alignment machine. The Hunter machine has a built-in program to set the steering angle. And when it's on the alignment machine, chances are good they'll have to mess with the rear axle, and if that's the case, it will need a full calibration.

If you just want a half-*** job, then yeah a VCDS at your own garage can do that, but you'll never know if your wheels are pointing straight.

Folks, this is just to get the new switch calibrated, not the cameras, not a wheel alignment, just the turn signal stalk. Nothing else is involved.

VCDS will just allow you to reset the new stalks to the same angle the previous one was at. No better or worse. It assumes the previous angle was correct. Hence why this is called a Basic Setting, not a calibration.

Perhaps you may not even need the calibration - drive the car around and see if it is working and how well.
