Hard Starting, Anyone ever have this?
Car is a 1998.5 A4 2.8liter Fronttrack/Auto
One afternoon, it decided to not start, with key in ON position I get all kinds of clicking from the instrument cluster and the tach needle wavers between 0 and 500 (before cranking it). No MIL light.
It cranks strong, but won't turn over. At first I think it's just flooded, I let it sit for 5 min with the throttle plate open. Still nothing, still turning, a stumble-catch every now and again.
I finally get it started by pumping the accelerator while cranking. Once it starts, it's as smooth as ever. Every start it's the same thing.
Last night the MIL light came on steady while starting it. It goes to the shop today, but anyone else ever have this happen to them?

I had an Engine Coolant Sensor go bad, car would start rough....
due to the ECU thinking the car was already warmed up, and it ran Rich, also had a Check Engine light on.
replaced sensor, no probs.

ps. fuel injected engines need no throttle input while starting.
