Tip chip update.
I spoke to Tony at PES twice this week, Today he told me that Garrett at GIAC is going to develop 3 new programs with varying degrees of aggressiveness. I will pick whichever I like the most. This should happen by the end of next week. Re: tiptronic holding first gear in tip mode after brake torquing (holding brake down while flooring throttle then letting up brake to launch car from a rest as fast as possible); this is not dialed into the tip chip. Has anyone tried this in an unchipped tiptronic. Please don't do this often. My car is a 4.2 with an engine chip and a tip chip, both by PES.

That is how every car magazine tests every automatic car. It's not a good thing to do more than just
a couple of times to get acceleration numbers. My chipped 4.2 did 0-60 in 6.65 sec with a hand held digital stopwatch. For example if you look at Car and Drivers recent test crowning the 2.7T its acceleratiomn 0-60 was 6.6 sec. When the car was running at 5 MPH and they floored it I believe the time from that speed to 60 was 7.4 sec or 7.5 sec. Mags at home and I'm still in the office. I believe my car took in the order of 7.1 sec. without brake torquing. I won't be doing it much more. With manual tranny's the abuse is much worse to get the quoted acceleration times. Clutches routinely get dumped. If you drove like this youd fry the clutch in a few thousand miles.

I'm expecting to get my 2000 a6 2.7t next week. Chip or not to chip, that is my question. If i do chip, is the Wetterauer alpha chip ($795) a good way to go? Will the chip cause premature turbo and throttle boot wear?
