Is periodically disconnecting the battery to restore power only required for chipped cars?
So, they jack up some parameters to raise performance. Well, they didn't catch everything they need to change, because the engine management detects something is going wrong, and backs off. It then remembers to stay backed off so it doesn't operate out of parameters.
Disconnecting the battery makes it lose this memory and so it goes back to the original operation.
Eventually, somebody will make a chip which doesn't do this. Or else they will reduce the power output so it isn't causing these problems.
