Remote Range
I've had my 2000 2.7T (silver/onyx, Tip, cold, convenience, xenon, leather, bose) for two months and I am very pleased with every aspect of the car, but one. Although a minor complaint, the remote does not work if I am more than four parking spaces away from the car.
I realize that limiting the range avoids unintended unlocking of the vehicle as you walk away from it. However, the current range doesn't allow me to lock (or confirm that I have locked) the vehicle from inside my home, which I would find very convenient.
Is this "four parking space range" normal or should it be somewhat greater? Can modifications be made to increase the range? Also, can modifications be made to increase the barely audible beep that confirms the car is locked?

You mean you haven't used your chin antenna?
Sounds strange, I know. Someone on the forum discovered that if you hold your remote up to your chin and press the buttons, the range is greatly increased.

Better than it used to be...
On my 98 A4 Avant the range was less then 15ft. Now with my A6 2.7T I got a range of about 150ft.
Still not the same as some Americans and Japanese cars but I think this is a minor downside of the car.

Works even better if.....
you lift you left leg 2 inches to change the EMF characture of your body :-) .. actually I am guessing that raising the key higher, is allowing the radio waves to travel better over other parked cars, instead of being blocked by the parked cars metal... just a guess?<p>rick in the SF East Bay
