HELP!! CAR WON'T START
I have a 2000 A8 with 70,000 miles. I live in manhattan and use only on weekends. In any cae, the car wouldn't start today after sitting idle for a week! Do I need a new battery? If so, how much do they cost? Woulds appreciate your help. Thanks.

A trickle charger continuously feeds a small charge to the battery when parked. Of course you will need to be parked in a garage that can set you up with electricity. Battary Tender is the one I use for my motorcycle because it will detect when it is fully charged and shut off so it doesn't overcharge the Battery.
IF the Battery is the original and it regularly sits without being stated you may need to get a new Battery as the drain down-start-drain down cycle is hard on a battery.

Check the electrolyte level
If the level is good, you should consider a new battery.
If the level is low, add distilled water, put a good charge on the battery, and try the trickle charger. You may still need a battery, but it's worth a shot.
I think there might be some info on non-Audi batteries, either in Audipages or via searching this forum, once they get search working again after the recent crash.

"Battery people" say an auto battery 3yrs or older is on borrowed time. Easy enough to fix.
Get a new one 
.. if your battery is so shot that it wont hold a charge for the 5 days you dont use it, then it's definitely time for a new one. Dont wait till winter and see how sorry that old battery will be in the cold.
