Default Roadster vandalism?

Hi all,
This may be a silly question, but I have read a few posts on this board talking about TT roadster owners having their droptops slashed or vandalized in some manner. I am deciding between a 2003 coupe and roadster and was wondering if that is serious enough an issue for me to weigh that factor into my final decision. I would hate to buy a brand new roadster, go to the mall, and come back out to see that some punks cut into my droptop or did something otherwise. Any past experience or comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Default I hope it never happens to you but if i had my choice I would take the

Roadster because they seem to key the paint on the coupes more and cut the tops on the Roadsters. I wouldn't want a repainted car but I could live with a new top.

Default That is one of my fears

...about convertables. If you really want a Roadster and you have a garage, I'd go for it. You figure the place it's going to sit the most would be in front of your house, that's the place to arouse jealousies. Everytime I've had a car vandalized, it's been in front of my house (not the TT yet).

I had my top slashed a couple of months ago. I was so pissed. Insurance covered the $2800 completly and the dealer did a great job on the replacement top. If I had to do it all over again I wouldnt have parked 2 blocks from the ghetto and left a coat in the passenger seat overnight. Now I just watch where I park when its not at home.

What about roadsters that get keyed. Twice. (2 years apart). That & a stolen antenna.

Mine got keyed a month ago, luckily just a inch (which I cover it easily with touch up paint from the dealer), saw much much worse from a coupe (front to back to front lines...) at the dealer before.
But as owner of a roadster, sometimes I regret not getting a coupe instead cos when the birds 'strike' on the soft top, it is impossible to clean.
