Unbearable and Consistent Creaking and Squeaking
My 2000 FWD TT is driving me nuts. There is an unbearable and consistent creaking or squeaking going on underneath the front end of my car. Initially, I thought it was my suspension. But my mechanic told me that the suspension was fine.
The reason I thought it was my suspension was because the creaking and squeaking is only present when the chassis is adjusting to the level of the road (which is basically 90% of the time I spend in the car). At low speeds, these sounds are even more apparent especially when making turns, going up hills, or just anything related to maneuvering in general.
Even worse than the actual creaking sounds coming from the underside of the front end; the car has lost all of its superior handling. I feel like I'm behind the wheel of my old Honda Accord.
I am confident that these two problems are somehow related.
I was almost certain that the car needed a new suspension. But with only 60,000 miles and a clean diagnoses from my mechanic - I am lost again.
Could my sway bar be causing the problems? Possibly the bushings? Is it possible for me to identify a possible "missing" or "bad" bushing on the sway bar?
I love the car a lot but right now; every second I spend in it is getting me more and more aggravated.
Does anyone know what could possibly be going on here?
Thanks in advance
Also, since someone is gonna say it....You need your timing belt replaced if it hasn't been. I wouldn't go over 60k without doing a timing belt job.

A chronic source of front end squeaking is the sway bar bushing rotating on the bar and causing the noise. This is not something you can see, but certainly one you can hear. Also at 60K your shocks are marginal and the top bushings and bearings most likely need replacing. There is a Technical service bulletin on the sway bar squeak. Cut the busing off and replace with 20mm powerflex bushings from TTstuff for the most economical solution to the problem..

In my case, somehow my front-end bushings dried up on me at only 26k miles. Maybe it was from lack of being garaged. In any case, I would get this creaking/squeaking sound everytime I went over a speed bump. The dealer replaced all of the front-end bushings and the sound was cured--car handles super tight.
