Default Question about after run turbo coolant pump------>

Mine runs sometimes at shutdown but not everytime. Volt meter check at wire connector for the pump indicates no voltage when the pump does not run. I thought that the pump ran for a few minutes every time the engine was turned off, but search reveals a few posts that state that after run time is dependant on how hard the engine has been run.

Does anyone know more? There has to be a relay somewhere. I suspect mine is failing.

TIA guys

The pump runs any time the key is cycled, you don't even have to start the car.

Default The fan control module is what turns the pump on >>

I have a 180 so my car doesn't have it but the bentley says it runs anytime the ignition is switched off.

Default the TT pump runs on a timer, roughly 10 minutes

every time the engine is shut off, or the key's simply tuned on and off.

Other model Audis (some non-turbo's have an after run pump too, my A6 with the 2.8l has one) have used temp sensors to try to determine more precise run time, but I understand they're less reliable than our set up. IIRC the fan control module is in charge of the after run pump. Nine times out of 10, intermittent and/or complete failure of the pump is remedied by replacing the pump. I'm on #3 pump, averaging 70k miles of useful life per pump. My original fan control module is still going.

Default Thanks guys for the info----apparently->

I'm the oddball with a control problem rather than a dead pump. I'll do some snooping. Fan control module huh---- I need to apply 12v to the pump via a jumper and make SURE it is good. All I have done so far is look for 12 v at the connector and it was not present.

Picked a fine time, as I ran the heck out of my car at Barber this weekend. I started looking because I smelled antifreeze when I parked after my last couple of runs. I fear the hot turbo with no after run pump may have cooked the hose where it connects. Hope the seals are ok.
