This looks like a deal... Eric, Press, Bill....
As much as you may think the Coupe is slow I will show you how it can be a great track car with ~2700-2800lbs total caged weight and very close to 50/50 weight distribution. A lot of custom suspension work and one happy revving motor. No turbo headaches and lags, etc. I want to drive to an event and not worry about hoses poping off, turbo not spooling, etc.
1st stage of the build should be done in a month, for Taurus club fun. That only entails standalone and some safety bits. I'll drive like that most of the summer. Then(stage 2), towards the end, maybe before BHF, I will build top end, full blown head work, wild port and polish, oversize valves, stiffer valve springs, Ti retainers, lightweight lifters(or solid conversion??), cams and some surprising bits on top of it=) Suspension will be slightly revised depending on how it behaves.
Stage 3(then I can stick a new badge on it) will come next year. I need to source a special block over the summer that I can build up over the winter. Mix and match of various old school Audi bits and pieces and forged rods and custom pistons. Put it all together. It will take some work and some more $$ but its cool. I like playing with it and it will be vey diffeent car from most everything you see out there nowadays.
I could of just dropped CR, bolted turbo bits and hit 400whp in no time but that's all been done before - I'm not hooked on back straight speed but rather pedal through the floor through the corners and all the torque I can use on corner exit. We'll see. Maybe I get to the level where I "need" more power. In that case, if I turbo the platform I would have already I'd hit 5-600whp...good enough for nice 4-wheel power slide through the corners.
So, no, I don't want 944 turbo but its a great track car out of the box.
