Default APR Stage 1+ owners ... please post here

Ok I got my APR Stage 1+ done last weekend and I am not really happy with it. It seems that the car is not really pushing 215/250 as APR website advertises.

Does anyone have a dyno for their stage 1+?

I have a FWD 03 1.8T A4 5 speed ... I am going to take my car to the dyno soon to see what the file is putting out ... I had my Neuspeed exhaust installed thursday and all I can say is I LOVE IT ... very nice, no fitting problems the tips are perfect - both tips stick out very little and perfect.

I am somewhat frustrated ... maybe it is fine and pushing 215/250 and im not used to the weight of the A4, but I was expecting something stronger after spending 1000$ on chip and injectors ....

IMHO the easiest way to test your car would be to get or borrow the the Gforce from escort. Gforce will give you HP, 0-60, 1/4 mi times etc. easy to use just pluge into cigarette lighter and is very accurate. I have an S4 with APR stage one and was always curious as to actual HP and 0-60 times etc. I've heard mixed reviews on dyno's and I don't have time to go to the track. If you live in MA you can borrow mine.

Default My 1+ feels similar to what my APR Stage 2 B5 felt like

I guess I'm saying that without a dyno there's no way to know for sure, but based on my new car's heavier weight, & the fact that I haven't installed an exhaust yet, it feels about right compared to what my B5 Avant felt like.... maybe it's coming up short in the HP department, but I think it's consistent with other APR mods, & that's at least partial reason to believe that the numbers are accurate, IMO.

Default Your answers I believe (long)

I waited for months for APR's solution. If you do a search you'll see my comments on the subject. As a mechanical engineer before becoming a dentist I feel I am semi-competent to address your question. i waited for months for the APR solution and instead decided to go Neuspeed after driving an APR Stage 1 car. In not so many terms APR's engineers mistakenly thought the only way to get over 205 hp and 230 lb/ft of torque was to use a hardware solution. They were proven wrong by GIAC, Neuspeed, and others. We now know that with other people have >40,000 miles on their GIAC and Neuspeed that this was completely and utterly false information. So to cover their asses APR decided they would make two stages. One was a detuned Stage 1 that produces significantly less hp and torque than the Neuspeed and GIAC and then produce a Stage 1+ that they would charge more for but would yield similar gains to software only solutions of the other tuners. I have personally raced 0-100 both APR stage 1 and APR 1+ with my Neuspeed chip and handily beat the Stage 1 every time and its a toss up with the Stage 1+. So I do not doubt your observations with the Stage 1+, APR's whole business model for this chip was built on false enginnering and now must rely on a way to make a monetary return on their investments.

Default i dont think they used injectors becuase they couldn't figure out a way to ...

produce more than 205/230. i think its more that they didn't feel it was good for the car, and that it was safer to use larger injectors.

i've seen a lot of bad things said about apr on this board. a few people have had problems and have just fliped out and blamed apr completely. earlier w/ the stage 1+ and problems caused that were just because of installers not having uptodate software an / or a bad burn.

then w/ the exhaust, becusae it didn't fit right. thats not apr's fault. thats just b/c ppl have it isntalled by ppl who dont know what their doing.

i've had both stage 1 chip and exhaust, both i loved and had no probs with performance or fitment.

apr offers more than just the speed / torque. they may have more conservative power ratings, but they offer what they feel is safe. what they think is safe may differ from what other companies think.

Default Re: i dont think they used injectors becuase they couldn't figure out a way to ...

Well sometimes the car feels like it is stock. For 1000$ + I think this file should be stronger.

There is no solid/boost feel and I think I am going to send it back, but the problem is I spent 500$ on injectors, so what am I going to do with them??? That is what sucks ....

Best thing to do is I will take the car to the dyno soon and oh ... this better be putting 215/250 because if it is not I don't where I'll start ...

Any advice?

I wish Neuspeed or GIAC would make a file to run with the injectors I have on now ... they're Audi TT225 injectors.

Default Bad News / Car won't start

Now I am completely upset and totally disapointed at APR. I spent over 1000$ and now the car is in my garage (thank God I wasn't on the road ) and it will not start. The little key light comes on meaning it is not communicating with the ECU.

I am sending the chip back to APR to get a refund and getting either Neuspeed or GIAC unless APR can re-program my ECU with a better DECENT file worth their Stage 1+ price and also have common sense and give me something to compensate my ****TY labor day weekend. Not having a car sucked today!
