The reason people told you that is this: Our cars are designed as a closed-loop system (see inside)
In a closed loop system, the by-pass valve, which we have instead of a blow-off valve, releases the pressurized air into the intake tract, rather than out into the atmosphere. If you install a blow-off valve in it's place, the car assumes that air is being placed back into the intake that is actually being blown off into the atmosphere, and can have stalling problems, check engine lights, etc. Some people have reported blow-off valves working fine, but I wouldn't do it. If you want to have <a href="http://people.brandeis.edu/~tsle/intake.wav">this</a> sound, get an intake like the Boosted Tech one (but not the Evo), or wait for the Carbonio intake. That sound file is my Boosted Tech intake with the stock bypass valve.
