Any last minute advice? Does this price seem right to anyone?

Standard minimum spec except for sunroof, painted sills and 16" alloys.

Default Nooooooo

Don't buy the rubber-band-omatic!

Keep looking and get yourself a 1.8T!

I think the big problem is that I need a car my girlfriend can drive

Is the 1.8T dynamics that much different?

This might be a little bit late for advice but I think that price seems OK.

I have a 2003 2.0 Avant CVT and it's great!
It's Dolphin Grey with high gloss package, 16" wheels, power seats & multifunction s/wheel. I bought it new 14 months ago and have had no mechanical problems with it. The only issues were minor:

*Drivers side door main speaker failure
*Chrome around rear window fading (weird hazy appearance).
These were replaced under warranty no questions asked.

The car is a great cruiser and a real pleasure to drive. Sure, those 1.8T owners will argue that it hasn't enough power and the 'rubber band' auto is weird (it takes a little while to get used to). I think that for the power to weight ratio (not good) it has excellent acceleration. But it's the fuel economy that really impresses, especially when buying PULP (I've found BP Ultimate best). I've been able to achieve highway consumption of around 6.3-6.5 litres/100km! Insurance costs are also a lot less that the 1.8T.

Wheels Magazine reviewed the 2.0 CVT in September 2002 and gave it a good write up - I can give you all the details if you are still undecided.
