Vag-Com help, or "Help, I'm melting"
Quick back story:
I have a 2003 A6. I was really fed up with the peeling plastic on the climate control panel, so I did something fairly idiotic - I bought a used panel on eBay, pulled from an earlier model. It went in smooth, and worked great - in the winter. After testing to see if it worked (well, sort of...I forgot to test the AC), I cheerfully sat the old unit on top of a box that was subsequently thrown away.
Fast forward to now - the unit I have installed won't turn on the AC compressor. I thought it might be an incompatibility, or maybe just a busted unit, so I stopped by the dealership today and priced a replacement ($800). The service manager told me that the unit I bought should work, and that it just needed to be recoded, and even gave me the code when I told him I had a VAG.
Problem is, I don't know exactly how to recode the unit. I know it needs to be coded 00010, but where the *&%^% do I plug that in? I figure it should be in control block 08, but kind of lost from there.
Does anyone know a procedure for doing this, or know of any resources online that could walk me through it? Or should I go back to the dealer and see if they would be willing to code it for me?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
