Default thinking about getting a 2006-2008 Audi A8 4.2L

I have been pondering the thought of buying a 2006-2008 Audi A8. Does anyone have a list of differences between the years and available options on those years? What is a good source to retrofit options on these vehicles?

Click on Resources above.

There you will find option sheets for all years.

Lots of sources for options but plan to bring big cash to that table.
Also plan to pay significant repair costs even if you do some of the work - these are complex finicky flagships, and worth every cent.

Forget 2006. From 2007 they have next generation engines (FSI). More power, better millage and few important things fixed (timing chain instead of belt, oil filter accessible ...)

Almost forgot. Welcome!

2007 it is then. Do most a8's come with the soft close doors? Has anyone retrofitted those? i have retrofitted plenty of options on my 211 E class and 203 class. I have a VAG system also.

I have soft-close on my 2007, which came as part of the "Premium package." Some people here have talked about retrofitting this option, but I believe the general consensus is it would be a lot of work (so you're probably better off buying a car with it already installed).

Make sure your VAG system cable supports a CAN bus, otherwise you'll need a new cable from Ross-Tech.

you would need new lock assemblies, door control units, soft close motors, cables + the coding. prob 1500 bucks in used parts if you´re lucky. haven´t done it myself but I was looking into it and got the necessary parts from a guy who did it.

Only reason to retrofit soft close would be fun doing it. Doors are closing very very soft without it anyways.

I'm big on retrofitting goodies on Euro cars.

I thought the name sounded familiar, I was on the MBWorld a few years when I had my W211 E500!

I would definitely say the 07+ is the way to go, the engine does not have a timing belt which is a high ticket maintenance procedure.

Mine came with AMI (iPod/USB interface) and BlueTooth integrated, which I believe are a bit harder to do on older models.

Plus I am a fan of the new-style nose.

Welcome to Audiworld, definitely not the amount of traffic I was used to on the MB forum, but most folks are happy to lend a hand.

Cheers

Edward

I really like having to only barely latch the doors and let the electronics close the rest of the way. It was really obnoxious to have a friend, used to driving his US auto (i.e. Cadillac), slam my doors closed (I ripped him a new one about the Audi not being a cheap POS American car). The primary reason I bought the A8 was that is was the utmost in a luxury sedan!
