Considering a 2005 W12 6.0
One option is a 2005 A8 W12 6.0 with 55,000 miles but I can not find much on here about what to look out for or if there are any major service points or risks related to the engine/transmisson line. For example, I understand it does not have a timing belt but how about the waterpump, will that still need replacing and is that as big a job as the timing belt on my D2. Does it have any other major service points?
Is the powertrain different and does it need special attention (given the more powerful engine)
Will I loose agility in handling due to the larger and I assume heavier engine?
I've had indications that I would be better of with the 4.2ltr Diesel version which is also difficult to asses in terms of potential or typical issues.
I'd be grateful if anyone had some experiance/advice on either of these engines and willing to share.
I've attached a few pics on the W12 alternative.
I am not sure about the water pump life but I will probably aim to change mine at some point early next year - it is a 2006 with just on 80,000 miles.
I will probably fit the new front suspension link kit very soon as well - just to tighten up the handling a bit.
I would not consider a W12 because of the fuel cost.
All the extras you get completely outweigh any of the drawbacks, if there are any.
Come on.... you're looking at buying the top of the line A8 !! not some taxi oil burner ;op
