Settings on restart

Is ther a way to set the car to remember dash settings on restart? I use the radio preset menu on the dash most of the time. When I restart the car, it goes back to the mph display. Secondly, is ther a way to keep the pop up display from extending until needed. While useful, it adds to the clutter.

Another poster asked about keeping the radio presets but that may be tied to the main screen display which overrides the gauge area.
