Ignition switch roadblock
Hey Audi types:
1991 Audi 100 with bad ignition switch. Got into it and ran into solid aluminum plate blocking access to switch. Took bolts out but it won't budge.
Do I have to somehow go underneath to get it out? Thanks!

I have a 93, and to swap the ignition in mine the dash panel display had to be removed, where then you can see the ignition located just below a cable, which has to be removed to easily gain access to the ignition switch. There are two small flathead screws held in by red thread locker, which can be scraped off, that you need to loosen and almost completely remove. After screws are out far enough, ignition switch pops right out and you simply unplug the old switch. Hope this helps

Yep, shows exactly what I said. In my line of work, I refer to this as being an internet or YouTube mechanic. It doesn't take a video to figure this out though...Obviously if one doesn't see screws holding switch in place from the bottom the only other reasonable solution would be to look from the top. But what do I know, I've only been a tech for over twenty five years and haven't watched a single YouTube video as reference yet. I really wasn't going to post this, but seeing someone posted a video kinda ticked me off.

Burghman..sorry if I upset you. My reasoning was not to dismiss your excellent reply to the OP..but rather assuming the OP has not had the mechanical experience..a good visual aid would be helpful. Please continue to make contributions to the knowledge base here. Cheers.
