Engine died in traffic turns over won't restart

Default Engine died in traffic turns over won't restart

2nd owner 02 q tt 225, 105k, purchased from friend a year ago w 90k (got all receipts since new, car went to Audi for everything) including dealer tb at 45k, cranks over no metal on metal, so think belts good haven't verified.

Question do these turbos fail on intake side? Was under minor load approx 35 mph, just felt like turned key off then crank over ok but no start, always fires right up! Only other recent symptoms different exhaust note/leak up front and occasionally throws a P0171 code, some emissions valve issue, clear code engine idle blips engine runs fine w or w/o code

Btw in between houses(garages) so towed to storage unit

Little hard to figure out, but I think you are saying it won't turn over at all. If so, you need to download codes; sounds more like an ESS. Don't jump to the turbo on something this.

Just slide off the plastic cap on top of the engine to see if the belt is intact. However, the belt could have jumped a few sprockets and there is a senor that kills the engine of the timing is not right. Assuming it is not the belt, it is time to replace it anyway and all the associated stuff.

Vegas and lyles, yep its tb, checked today, guess I'll be back to report how "totalled" it is in about a month, always wanted to build a european street sleeper

You need a complete top end overhaul since most valves and some pistons will need to be replaced. Indy shop charges typically start at $5K and go up from there. TB etc change interval is 60K miles OR 5 years, whichever comes first. Common knowledge on all the various Mk 1 forums but unfortunately most new owners don't check here until after the TB goes. Sorry it happened to you.
