Is this used 2008 a4 a good buy?
I found a used 2008 A4 2.0T nearby that seems like a pretty sweet little ride that fits my budget and was wondering if anyone here could advise if they think is worth looking at as a used car, or perhaps provide any tips on what to look out for with these B7s.
- 2008 Audi 2.0T FSI 4-cylinder sedan
- 93k miles
- AWD
- stickshift
- S-line exterior badge, but has the four spoke steering wheel and looks like the stock wheels so I don't think it has the sport suspension.
It's got much fewer miles on it than many other comparable A4s in my area. They're asking $7,500 for it but my gut tells me it's worth $6,500 maybe $7,00 depending on the condition and health of the engine.
I'm a big fan of that engine platform so if the engine and trans are solid then I bet I could easily get plenty more miles or years out of her instead of trying to keep my 07 VW Rabbit V5 limping along. And it would be way more pleasurable to drive.
Your thoughts and advice much appreciated.
It's an hour away, though. Do you think it's worth the trip if they're asking that much? Or is that right in the range that I could expect to find that model/year/mileage?
People often dump these cars right when the timing belt is due. That's another ~ $1000 bill.
2. Check the suspension. It's a bit pricey to replace unless you go aftermarket.
3. Listen for any kind of tapping or rattling at the back of the engine. The plastic cam chain tensioner guides have been known to fail on certain models.
4. Look for leaks around the oil filter housing as it leaks often on this model.
5. The S-line was the basic trim package for the 2008 year so if there isn't badging besides the bumper it is not a true S-line.
6. Make sure A/C is working and nice and cold.
Hope this helps!
