Changed battery, now no crank no start. 2005 A6 3.2
Had a bad battery that I replaced, now I'm getting no crank. After changing the battery and it not starting (changed it in the auto parts parking lot) I reinstalled the old battery and tried starting using jump pack but still didn't work. Recoded the battery in VCDS and that didn't do anything but shut MMI off for some reason. (Changed the part number saved in 61 - battery management after that which brought back MMI somehow)
This car has had some... modification prior to me owning it. Starter relay 1 has a jumper wire already installed across it, I'm guessing that gets the signal from the PN selector since that has been a code in vcds since I got the car. When I turn the key I can feel starter relay 2 engage. Multimeter readings across starter relay 1 go from 0v at rest to 11.8v when cranking the key.
Could there have been any weird VCDS changes that allowed the car to start that got cleared when I unhooked the battery? Could the starter have just happened to die at the same time as I changed the battery? Any thoughts guys?

Update - before I started throwing parts at the problem, I decided to cover the easy stuff. Checked every fuse but still no luck. I remembered when changing the battery the ground from the battery post to the battery control box got loose so I just tightened it back down so I pulled that connection apart, cleaned the connector and post with some sandpaper, and now it starts again - shut it off and restarted it 3 times. I guess I was over-thinking it.
