I've just been told that forged rims ride worse than cast, all things being equal.

Apparently the forged versions are more brittle and stiff, therefore transmitting more of the road surface irregularities into the car.

Can anyone validate that? I would like to install some lightweight forged rims. Thinking of the 7 spoke DTM reps. Obviously things that are going to affect the ride the most are 1) suspension, and 2) tires. If you're concerned about feeling more bumps, don't go with too large a wheel. Increasing wheel size decreases tire sidewall height, and sidewalls really help to dampen those small bumps. Even with the same size tire, selection of tire brand/model will affect ride quality considerably.. more so than cast vs forged wheels in my opinion.

Comparatively a lighter wheel in the same diameter allows the suspension to react faster as it has less unsprung mass to move.

You should be able to tell a difference between a given tire with different sidewall heights (i.e. Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 in 225/45/17 and 235/40/18), and maybe even between two different tires of identical size (i.e. Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 in 235/40/18 and Continental ContiSportContact 2 in 235/40/18). If all other things are equal, especially the forged and cast rims being equal weight, I doubt you would ever be able to tell a ride quality difference between forged and cast.

So Skyler, can we do a deal on the rims?

Not sure if the ET fits the C6. Also not too sure about the 19s as I don't want to lose too much sidewall. Are they available in 18?

Also, small problem of me being in Singapore. Can you help?
