Would 225/45-17s fit my Allroad with stock double-spoke wheels?

I'm looking to put some new rubber on my '04 Allroad. I know stock is 225/55-17, but there are some Bridgestone RE960AS 225/45-17s on TireRack that I'm looking at. I have this same tire on my A6 and absolutely love. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, they'll fit the wheels. but they are much too short for your allroad.

Thanks for the reply, do you think the Yoko S.4s are the best all-season then on Allroad?

For an ultra-high performance all season, yes.

If you're willing to sacrifice some handling, dry grip and steering response for a tire with a softer ride and longer wear, I like the Bridgestone Turanza Serentity tires.<ul><li><a href="http://www.tirerack.com/a.jsp?a=AR8&url=/tires/index.jsp">Tires</a></li></ul>

Wrong overall size, load rating, etc.

I don't know how much you know about sizing - but the first number is the width. 225 mm wide tread. The second number is the sidewall height, expressed as a % of the width. So the proper size is 55% of 225mm. You would make it 20% ( roughly) smaller. That means a smaller wheel, rougher ride, lower load rating, and higher incidence of wheel damage due to sidewall collapse. Noe of the above good.
