Need help, the red tape is around my neck and choking me.
Ok, here is the situation. I have an A3 that was bought in Germany and driven there for a year. Now the car is in San Diego and I am trying to register it, but the D.M.V. is saying that I need a smog test done before they will register it. Well the problem is that none of the smog machines will accept the car. The software is not programmed for a 2006 A3. So that leaves me in limbo in the sea of red tape. Please help, I have tried the dealers in the area, but they where no help.
Thanks

Just to be clear, this car is CA emissions legal, but you are being asked to do a smog test?
And since it's a car that does NOT typically require a smog, none of the smog test centers in SD can actually smog the car?

Thats right. There saying it needs a new smog due to the fact it was
driven in Germany. The car came with all the paper work that it is smog checked for all 50 states, but they still want it.

Damn. Are you going direct to the DMV? Are you a AAA member?
It's probably a longshot, but maybe they would be more willing to work with a member than the DMV would just anyone. Maybe it won't matter, but what the heck.
