Default Outer or inner CV joints?

I have a 2001 audi quarttro and the outer CV joints need replacing for sure, doing that as soon as they come in. Clicking when turning.

But my question is how do you know if the inner ones are ok?

I do have a steering wheel wobble at 60 - 80 but acceleration has nothing to do with it. I do have a slight clunk when driving slow speeds and tapping gas. To me it sounds like this could all be the issue of the outer joints.

For ease of DIY i rather just replace outer CVs and they are on order. Any sure ways to tell if the inners are bad too?

The inner joints dont go out as often as much as the outter joints. I would getthe outters replaced and see if that takes care of the issue.

Whats the tread like on your tires?

Inflated to the proper level?

Have they been balanced lately?

Pressure perfect, tires are close to brand new. Imagine they were balanced recently could check again.

Is it really necessary to free the bearing housing from suspension to get the joint out?

Can't it just come out if the steering it turned far in one direction? Anyone?

In order for the joint to come out you need to remove the large hex bolt that connects the axle to the hub/upright.
