Default dumb question - MMI vs. RNS-E?? what's the difference?

i just bought a 2006 A4 2.0T and have been researching the media interface. i think mine is the MMI since that's what appears when it lights up. however, i see a lot of chatter about this RNS-E and am just trying to figure out what the diff between these two is. can anyone fill me in? thanks!
