RNS-E Ground/speaker problem

RNS-E Ground/speaker problem
I have a dead speaker (right rear) that doesn't play at all, and which hums without playing sound when the ignition is off and the music is on.
I just was pulling the head unit to locate a wire, and noticed that the same speaker made crackling noises when the head unit case was rubbed against the dash frame when sliding in and out.
Might this have some kind of internal defect that perhaps has a short to ground of the right rear speaker output?
It suggests that this is not in the amplifier, but in the (expensive) head unit.
RNS-E unit is a Euro source, flashed US, from a reliable source last year.

Try to swap the pins
Swap left/right rear line out and see what happens. The pin out is printed on the RNS-E and the quadlock pins are easy to remove.
