3rd gear grind... opinions please
Ok.. here is the symptom: If I am in second gear and I am above 5500 rpm and shift into 3rd fairluy quick I get a little resistance.. and If I push into that the gear grinds and then gets into place. If I wait a little bit (only when I am above 5500 rpm, mind you) after I pull out of second to go into 3rd then I don't get the grind.
Is this just synchros not fast enough for me? I am shifting too fast? Clutch is fully depressed and it only happens in 3rd gear.
Service dept checked it out and couldn't replicate, so I want to show them it next time and have something to tell them it might be.
Thanks!

My 3rd gear developed a *snick* a couple of months ago...
and have taken to dbl clutching when leaning on the car. During normal driving the grind will occur anytime clutch is not full down.
Dogs on 3rd grear syncro are worn over for sure so I'm just kind of nursing it to lease end.

I need to scan in all of my slides from that week in Monte Carlo
I stayed at the same hotel as the McLaren mechanics and went to work with them every day. Lots of fun. Learned quite a bit as well.

had the exact same problem...switched to Redline MT90 and it went
away. At first there was alittle resistance...then it got to the point I couldnt even shift into third abouve 4500rpm..after the oil switch its been great ever since...perhaps the oem lube is too slippery...try the Redline..

If I was inclined to grumble about it I would...
Frankly, I don't care cuz it's not that bad. I think it important to also note I have flogged this car w/o mercy. I like leased cars very much. They start and finish their tenure in my barn as little more than any other purpose built tool.
When I own a car: I polish, leave at home, worry where I park and fret over little dings. When I lease...well, you get the idea.
