Default Aftermarket whhel question

I'm getting ready to order a set of 17"x7.5" wheels with a +40mm offset and I'll be running stock 225/45-17 tires on my 2001 TT Roadster. My questions is how close to flush can I space the wheels without having the tires rub?

Anyone have some insight on this? I see a lot of pics of other peoples TT's and the tires look pretty flush...just wondering if the tires rub running that close to the fenders. My car is the stock ride height....if that helps.
Thanks,
Tom

my '01 180 Quattro coupe is lowered with the Eibach pro-kit springs (about an inch or slighlty more) and I have 18" after market rims for the summer. no rubbing.

I just bought a 2003 tt Quattro that came with 18" motegi rims and blizzak tires. I don't notice any rubbing on it, but mine isn't lowered. Yet
