Am I being paranoid?
My Neiman Marcus Special Edition TT should arrive at my dealer within the next 7 days. I've given the dealer instructions to hand wax only, and not drill the front license plate holes. The TT will arrive with very little fuel, and someone from the dealership drives it a couple of miles down the road to gas it up.
I'm a bit worried about the car being driven hard to and from the gas station and maybe the driver taking the long way back. I wouldn't be too concerned if the TT had been out for awhile, but this will be the first TT to arrive at the dealership, and I'm sure that "lot boys" or whoever drives it will be anxious to check out the car and put some foot into it. This is human nature, and it would be hard for me to behave under those circumstances.
So what do you think? Am I being paranoid? Should I tell them that no one else
I agree with Rob. The dealer will ahve no problem giving you a credit slip. I used to work at a Mercedes dealer as a porter and when the 500SL came out you can bet I took the long way there and home. If you're that concerned, take precautions.

Brad,
I would worry about the hand wax and not the lot boy filling it up. Not knowing the equipment(machine or hand), type of wax(turtle wax or Zymol), etc. chances for hurting your new baby are probably higher than the gas guy.
Plus, giving your new baby a personal hand wax establishes a special bond and can never be had when someone else does it for you.

Re: Am I being paranoid? Definitely Not!
Brad,
I agree with everyone else that has responded to your original message. I have heard too many horror stories of lot jockeys ruining a new car. I have instructed my dealer not to wax or even display the car. Some dealers will put the car in the showroom before you are able to pick it up. Belt buckles cause major scratches to the finish. The TT will definitely attract a lot of attention in the showroom, or even the street. My concern are the parking valets. Virtually every place in Chicago will require using the valet service. I guess that I will not be going out to eat for a while.

Re: Am I being paranoid?
I sat down with my dealership's Sales Manager and reviewed a letter that I wrote. The first half of the letter was praise for the dealership, my specialist, and another individual. The other half of the letter outlined my request for special handling. My 4 requests were:
1. No front license plate holes.
2. Hand wax only, no buffer.
3. No public display of the vehicle.
4. The car is only to be driven around the dealership's lot as necessary to move the car. I will gas it myself.
It may sound **** to some, but I think that these are reasonable requests. I'm jealous of Mr. Jolly, et al. I hope us Southern Californians get our cars soon.
