Another Cylinder 1 misfire - so is there any reason I should'nt switch to Hitachi Coils?
ECS is selling the Hitachi "E" bolt down coil packs along with a bolt kit as replacement for the "R" push in Beru's. What is odd is the BEA engine code takes a different coil pack than all the other 1.8T's - although they are push in like the Berus's for the AWW and AWP's.
I originally thought the bolt in ones might not fit due to differences in the electrical connection. Can anyone confirm this? Has anyone changed over a BEA to the bolt down Hitachis? I'd like to go that route if I can!

Supposedly, the Hitachi ones have a lower failure rate. I've found it to be hit or miss...
Several friends with the push-in style coilpacks have been through far fewer than I have (in some cases, with considerably more mileage).
I don't think you'll save yourself any headaches, but you'll end up with 8 more bolts to deal with. ;-)
Just in my personal experience.
Reality and/or results may vary. ;-D

second... my car came with Hitachi's. I've gone thru several sets in 130k
they've varied widely in quality, one set: 7k miles, another 13k, the best were the originals: 60k. They go to hard missfire every time... very hit or miss, I carry spares...

Ok - so i'll stick with the push in - what is odd though is the "R" revision
which is the latest is for 06B 905 115 and the BEA is 06A 905 115 A. I can't for the life of me figure out what could be different. Both the AWP and BEA are VVT engines. The ATC and AMU both use the "E" version of the Hitachi's. It's not that big a deal - but the "R" is cheaper.

They are modified oem coils (the bolt down kind) where they replaced the electronics with their own. They don't make any durability claims. Back when I first heard of the coil pack issues I got them to try as an experiment since I read many non-audi forum posts where people were happy with them. They were roughly $500/set. There are no installation issues.
