For anyone here with PS2 that has not played Grand Theft Auto III.........do it!!!!
Ok....granted....Gran Turismo III is a superior driving simulation, but GTAIII has sooooo much more to it.
Now.....if you're easily offended, this is not the game for you.
Just a few of my experiences playing this game the past few days:
1)Don't try to carjack a cop.....they get seriously pissed.
2)If you're low on life levels and can't find a "heart" icon, just go get yourself a hooker and drive with her to a park or alley. The car starts a'rockin and life level goes up. As an added bonus, if you're low on cash when she's done, lay down the smack with your bat and get your money back
3)so far, I havent found too many pimps that were holding more than 20 bucks after i beat them up
4)careful with your flamethrower.....if you use it at close range, you'll burst into flames yourself.
5)listening to people walking around on the streets is a total crack up. Walk past the hookers and hear such things as "I've got an itch" or "does this look infected?", pull a pistol on a pimp and hear "yo, bitch!"
6)taking down a helicopter with a rocket launcher is always fun, but that's when the cops really go medieval on your ***
7)another interesting sound comes up as your driving down the sidewalk mowing down pedestrians......it's sort of a squishy type of sound
8)tip: don't fire a weapon in the gun store....the owner gets a bit upset and lays a shotgun into you
Anyone else who has played.....please feel free to add impressions. I'm only at around 12% completed and am curious what's in store.
To everyone else.....don't be concerned about me, I won't be up in a clock tower with an automatic weapon as a result of this game.

When you are driving...put the radio on the talk channel....and you will seriously crack up!!!
Especially on the commercials.......there is one in particular about a company that will deliver pets to your door! hahaha friggin hilarious.

I've been teetering on the fence to get a new game system for about 3 months now (more)
I've been thinking PS2 with GT3 and GTA3 being the only games I'd purchase. The only thing is, I want it to be a 2-shot deal, getting a cool game system that will also replace a crappy, old, failing DVD player at my girlfriend's house. Problem? PS2 won't play multiregion discs out of the box, but the x-box does. I have like 30 region 2 discs. X-box is made by microsoft, and I vowed 12 years ago to never purchase anything manufactured by microsoft or one of its subsidiaries. I have since stuck to my guns on that rule.
Not sure what to do. I could get an aftermarket deal to make the PS2 play multiregion, but then that's another $50 down the drain. <sigh> plus the games.. heh. Too many toys, not enough ca$h.

My buddy has the X-Box and I have the PS2........
IMO........the PS2 controllers are easier to use.......there are tons more games....and the XBox is having tech problems (friend is on his second system). Reliability is a major factor for me.....especially considering how much the damn things cost.
Dont forget about James Bond 007 for PS2 and Max Payne for PS2. Both are must purchases!!!!!
Re: DVD......I am not impressed with PS2 for DVD.....seems like a pain in the *** to watch DVDs on the system.....do yourself a favor and just buy a seperate DVD player....

Most of the media places in GTA3 have online links
Love Media
Game Girls (Warning: adult content)
Game Radio (Warning: adult content)
I know there's more, but I have to re-find them.

I love my XBox...
I too wanted GT3. That was basically the only reason to get PS2 for me. I'm even still thinking about it. But other than that, I love my XBox.
Halo rocks. Project Gotham is great for what it is... a really great game, not a simulator. I also have Amped (snowboarding) and Air Force Delta Storm (still haven't opened this one yet...) I want Munch's Oddysee also.
And lots of great new games are coming 'down the pike' for late spring/summer release.
Oh, and the DVD player is pretty good, really. No problems here with that.
YMMV.
